CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time/Exempt

SALARY RANGE: $64,826.28 - $97,239.42
POSITION SUMMARY: The Child Care Director, under the direction of the Vice President, Programs, is responsible for the overall daily operation of the full-day child care program, and holds the primary responsibility for the education, health, welfare, and safety of all children in the center. Responsibilities include but are not limited to licensing, compliance, staffing, curriculum, facilities, staff development, fiscal management, community relations and collaborations. The position requires that the Director will learn, understand and implement both New York State child care policies in addition to Silver Bay’s policies concerning child safety. Duties may involve early mornings, evenings and weekends. The job is performed to standard when all work is completed accurately, on time, and with minimal supervision.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises all child care staff
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Ensures program and services meet community needs; supervises program and establishes new activities to meet community needs; assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
2. Manages the safety, licensing, maintenance, development and innovation of the program; reviews program records to ensure consistency with evidence-based best practices.
3. Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations related to program activities; ensures Y program quality and safety standards are met.
4. Secures, schedules and maintains needed facilities; creates and schedules activities; maintains program records and files.
5. Provides and maintains a safe and healthy environment for children, staff, volunteers.
6. Conducts and documents all state required inspections, emergency planning and emergency drills.
7. Maintains enrollment and meets growth goals for program participation.
8. Monitors budget to meet fiscal objectives; evaluates program participation and effectiveness by compiling and reviewing program statistics.
9. Recruits and hires a diverse staff and volunteer team; ensures onboarding goals are established and met.
10. Prepares staff schedules and modifies, as needed.
11. Trains and develops staff to plan and implement developmentally appropriate programs for all children.
12. Uses performance management tools and processes, as appropriate.
13. Develops and maintains collaborative and harmonious relationships with staff, parents, volunteers, caregivers, community organizations or agencies to maximize program impact and drive overall outcomes.
14. Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related results; organizes or participates with other Y activities, such as committees, special events and fundraising.
15. Serves as Manager-on-Duty, as required.
16. Performs other duties, as requested.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
Must hold a New York State Childhood Education Teacher certification.
Must demonstrate an understanding of early childhood field and developmentally appropriate practices.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a child care environment.
Previous 2 years’ supervisory experience as a center director or assistant director is preferred.
Must hold and maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
Must fulfill all state-specific hiring standards.
Strong verbal, written, and customer service skills are required.
