DEPARTMENT:                  People Culture and Human Resources

REPORTS TO:                     VP, Strategy & Operations (VPSO)

DIRECT REPORTS:           Oxfam America (OUS) People, Culture, and Human Resources team

About Oxfam America:

Oxfam America (OUS) is a not-for-profit organization and member of the global Oxfam International confederation of 21 affiliates working with more than 3,800 partner organizations in nearly 70 countries.  With nearly 80 years of experience, Oxfam has learned what it takes to fight inequality and respond to emergencies, and we mobilize people and resources worldwide to make it happen.  As an affiliate founded in 1970, OUS holds a critical responsibility for strategic and operational support and partnership with countries and regions where Oxfam works—and for US advocacy, fundraising, and domestic programming for the global confederation.

OUS has offices in Boston, MA and Washington DC, and we offer hybrid and remote working options. Oxfam America (OUS) has ~250 employees and supports an additional 30+ OI employees in Senegal. Employees who are individual contributors are members of two unions UNITE HERE! (Boston) and Service Employees International Union (DC).  We believe in and work for worker rights and maintain productive relationship with both unions.

Our 2030 strategy rests on our ability to build the culture and competencies that Oxfam needs to create systems-level change and to be an employer of choice for a talented diverse workforce. We are working to build an open and inclusive culture grounded in a set of shared values, in feminist principles and in a commitment to anti-racism. We are implementing policies, practices and ways of working to support Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging and are committed at every level of the organization to continued progress.

We need to continue to build skills to be effective and agile working in networks and in on-going and escalating disruption. Among our priorities are continuing to build our collaboration and organizing capability, and the ability to make sense of and respond to an increasingly complex work and living environment. We are working to foster curiosity and create the space for staff to innovate, test and learn, including through our failures. We aim to retain the important urgency and passion of our mission while building a learning organization that supports all staff to maximize their potential, develop strong effective leaders and thrive.
