Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a key member of Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless' Executive Leadership Team and provides strategic leadership for the organization's financial health, long-term sustainability, and enterprise-wide financial operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO leads all aspects of finance, accounting, budgeting, financial planning, audit, compliance, risk management, and financial strategy for both Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless (MCCH) and its affiliated housing organization, Coalition Homes.
The CFO partners closely with the CEO, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Program Officer, Director of External Affairs, and Director of Community Impact & Philanthropy to align financial resources with organizational priorities, strengthen operational excellence, support affordable housing initiatives, maximize public and private investments, and advance MCCH's strategic plan.
As a strategic advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors, the CFO provides data-driven financial leadership that supports informed decision-making, organizational growth, financial resilience, and the long-term sustainability of the organization's mission to end homelessness.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Strategic Planning
- Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, helping establish organizational priorities, strategic direction, and enterprise-wide initiatives.
- Partner with the CEO to develop and implement long-term financial strategies that support organizational sustainability, growth, innovation, and mission impact.
- Collaborate with the COO to strengthen operational effectiveness, improve business processes, and ensure financial resources support organizational performance.
- Work closely with the Chief Program Officer to develop financially sustainable service models, evaluate program performance, and support strategic expansion of housing and supportive services.
- Partner with the Director of Community Impact & Philanthropy to develop fundraising strategies, evaluate philanthropic investments, maximize grant opportunities, and ensure financial stewardship of contributed revenue.
- Collaborate with the Director of External Affairs and Government Relations to provide financial analysis supporting government relations, advocacy initiatives, public policy priorities, and community partnerships.
- Lead financial planning for strategic initiatives, new business opportunities, affordable housing development, and capital investments.
Financial Strategy, Planning & Organizational Sustainability
- Develop and execute comprehensive financial strategies that ensure long-term organizational stability and sustainability.
- Lead organization-wide financial forecasting, multi-year planning, scenario modeling, and risk analysis.
- Establish financial performance metrics and dashboards that support strategic decision-making.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations for major organizational initiatives, investments, acquisitions, and expansion opportunities.
- Evaluate emerging risks, funding trends, and economic conditions affecting the organization and recommend proactive strategies.
Financial Management, Reporting & Analysis
- Oversee all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and financial operations across MCCH and Coalition Homes.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), FASB standards, Uniform Guidance, and nonprofit accounting requirements.
- Present financial reports and strategic recommendations to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
- Translate complex financial information into meaningful insights that support executive and Board decision-making.
- Monitor organizational financial performance and recommend corrective actions when needed.
Affordable Housing & Real Estate Financial Oversight
- Provide executive financial oversight for Coalition Homes and all affordable housing operations.
- Lead long-term financial planning for affordable housing assets, capital improvements, refinancing opportunities, reserve planning, and portfolio sustainability.
