Position Overview.
Cheverus High School seeks an experienced, mission-aligned Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve as a senior leader responsible for the financial stewardship, operational effectiveness, and long-term financial sustainability of the school. Reporting to the President and serving as a key member of the senior leadership team, the CFO acts as both a strategic partner and a hands-on leader, overseeing the school’s financial and business operations. This role offers the opportunity to steward a stable institution while strengthening systems, advancing long-range planning, and supporting Cheverus’ Jesuit mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the President to develop, manage, and monitor the annual operating budget
- Provide leadership for business operations, including budgeting, purchasing, and financial performance management
- Lead long-range financial planning and institutional sustainability efforts
- Oversee accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit processes
- Direct cash management, financial analysis, and budget-to-actual reporting to support informed decision-making
- Serve as the primary liaison to banks, auditors, investment partners, and municipal entities, including debt compliance and endowment coordination
- Support Board governance by working closely with the Finance, Investment, and Facilities Committees
- Lead capital planning and oversee major facilities and capital improvement projects
- Partner with Human Resources on key personnel functions, including hiring and benefits administration
- Oversee tuition billing, collection, financial aid administration, and institutional risk management
Qualifications
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field; MBA or CPA strongly preferred
- Bring significant senior-level financial leadership experience, with demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and compliance
- Have experience in nonprofit, educational, independent school, Catholic, or other mission-driven organizations
- Demonstrate strong ethical judgment, discretion, and sound decision-making
- Align financial strategy with institutional mission and long-term sustainability goals
- Communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
- Show a clear commitment to supporting and advancing Cheverus’ Catholic, Jesuit mission and identity
