Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY
This employee is a supervisor in a public Child Welfare Agency.
The employee will assign work/duties/cases to their employees according to caseload size and skill level.
The employee will ensure that regulations and laws are followed by case reviews, conferences and reports.
The employee will immediately identify any areas of concern regarding employee work product and/or conduct and will report this to the Director of Permanency Services for consultation in rectifying the concern.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to Director of Permanency Services
Reports to CY Administrator IV, as needed
Supervises 5 caseworkers, and 1 clerical
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides quality supervision to five (5) caseworkers, and 1 clerical.
Assures the safety, well-being, and timely permanence of children served by the unit by teaching, monitoring, and coaching casework performance.
Assures that children are safe and receive proper care.
Assures that regulatory requirements are met by reviewing case records and discussing case plans and services provided with caseworkers.
Trains and coaches staff in job performance.
Develops staff competence through individual conferences and unit meetings.
Carefully manages work-related stress and assists staff in coping with work-related stress.
Assigns new cases/tasks to caseworkers, assuring equitable division of work.
Will maintain a schedule of activities and will confer with other departments regarding job assignments as needed.
Routinely attends and contributes to case plans at Placement Review Committee and Permanency Planning Committee meetings.
Participates in scheduled administrative meetings and other committees as assigned.
Conducts yearly performance evaluations of assigned employees.
Attends court hearings to provide consultation to Agency attorney and testifying caseworkers.
Represents the Agency in the community via speeches, service on boards, etc.
Routinely provides own transportation to and from client’s homes, meetings, outreach visits and other job - related appointments in a timely manner and be able to access those locations with reasonable accommodations.
Will apply relevant Child Welfare Experience to supervision and other supervisory duties.
Utilizes personal characteristics and demonstrates a commitment necessary to enhance the Agency’s mission.
Utilizes strong assessment and problem solving skills in supervisory duties.
Demonstrates strong organizational skills in implementing oversight over assigned caseworkers.
Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills in performing supervisory duties.
Is able to implement the skills necessary to diffuse angry and hostile clients.
Is able to demonstrate the ability to foster team functioning within the unit, the department, and with the management team.
Does not pose a threat to the health and safety of the department.
OTHER SPECIFIC TASKS OR DUTIES
Perform other duties as assigned
Willing to travel and meet County requirements for Fleet policy.
Other responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of professional experience in public or private social work and a bachelor’s degree with major course work in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; Or
Any equivalent combination of experience and education which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
A Master’s Degree in Social Work is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to work independently.
Should have computer skills to manage spreadsheets and to maintain required documentation.
Knowledge of Juvenile Act, ASFA, Fostering Connections and other applicable laws and regulations.
