About the role

WHY DEPT®?

We are a Growth Invention company built to help the world’s most ambitious brands grow faster. Operating at the intersection of technology and marketing, we create what is next by pioneering ideas, acting fast, and moving further because standing still just is not in our DNA.

We are drawn to people who stay curious, move with intent, and never stop inventing. Our culture runs on three values: better together, relentlessly curious, and get sh*t done. It is how we work, how we grow, and how we make things that matter.

At DEPT®, you will find the freedom to explore, the space to collaborate, and the trust to make a real impact for our clients, for each other, and for the world we are helping to build.

THE ROLE:

We are looking for a Principal, Data Technology to work with our clients on the data behind their media and creative measurement. You are deeply hands-on and excited about turning multi-source media and creative data into clean models, dependable pipelines, and Looker dashboards people rely on. You are comfortable working alongside data scientists, creative strategists, media activation, and fellow engineers to translate their questions into reporting they can act on. At DEPT®, we pride ourselves on our pragmatic, engineering approach to making data work for the business.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Own the Creative-Media data function end to end — the architecture, models, pipelines, and reporting behind how the client measures creative performance in media.
  • Design, build, and maintain the data models that bring media, creative, and performance data together from across platforms, structured and ready for analysis.
  • Build and maintain the ETL/ELT that ingests data from multiple media platforms and sources into Snowflake and BigQuery, with a focus on automation, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Develop and own Looker dashboards and the underlying LookML models as the client's primary measurement surface, with supporting reporting in Data Studio (Looker Studio) where it fits.
  • Set the technical direction and standards for the function as it grows from its first hire, making the foundational decisions others will build on.
  • Partner directly with the client's data science and creative strategy teams, and collaborate with peer engineers on the account who own adjacent areas of media.
  • Apply genuine digital media fluency — platform metrics, asset-level creative performance, and the data behind them — to structure data correctly and keep reporting meaningful.
  • Work across AWS and Google Cloud Platform to run the data stack end to end, and own data quality, documentation, and governance so teams can trust the reporting.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • 8+ years of hands-on BI, analytics, or data engineering, ideally in a client-facing or agency setting.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with Snowflake and BigQuery, and strong SQL.
  • Demonstrated Looker / LookML expertise, plus experience with Data Studio (Looker Studio).
  • Strong hands-on ETL/ELT experience across a range of tools and sources; familiarity with Matillion is a plus.
  • Solid working experience across AWS and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Direct, hands-on experience with paid media platforms (e.g., Meta, Google / YouTube, programmatic) and the data they generate, including how performance is measured.
  • Solid engineering fundamentals — version control, testing, and disciplined data modeling and documentation.
  • A track record of owning work end to end and setting your own technical direction with limited oversight.
  • Strong communication skills, with comfort working directly with clients.

WHAT DO WE OFFER?

We are a collaborative, open-door, best-idea-wins environment that fosters personal and company growth and has fun doing it. Here is a snapshot of our  benefits package:

  • Healthcare, Dental, and Vision coverage
  • 401k plan, plus matching

The anticipated salary range for this position is $108,600 - $145,000. Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, expertise, and organizational impact. This is based on a 40-hour workweek and leveling. Keep in mind, we're flexible.
