About the role

As a Director in the OCI Data Services organization, you will build and lead a software development org, key initiatives, and roadmaps, while delivering critical projects with short, medium, and long-term objectives. You will influence executives and technical leaders, work across organizational boundaries, align teams on significant goals. You will demonstrate leadership, communication, and people management skills, and deep understanding of product development.

You will lead teams consisting of software engineers of all levels and software development managers responsible for software architecture and development for major components of managed database service on OCI.
 

You should become comfortable with running and providing technical leadership at developing software that interacts closely with the core components like Compute, Networking and Storage. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.

This role will drive major aspects of our product definition, supply to the product strategy of our solutions, and is paramount to the reliability and efficiency of large scale, fault tolerant multi-tenant database systems that customers rely on for their critical production workloads.

 

Responsibilities

As a director of the software engineering division, you will apply your extensive knowledge of software architecture to run software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems, and databases according to provided design specifications. Build improvements within an existing software architecture and envision future improvements to the architecture.

Required Qualifications

  • MS or BS in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • 7-10 years of proven experience leading Software Engineering teams and managers.
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience
  • Strong social skills, analytical skills, and project management skills
  • Experience delivering and operating large-scale, highly available distributed services.
  • Experience with microservice design patterns and service-to-service communication protocols along with developing highly reliable services.
  • Experience with devising, managing, and extending monitoring solutions for large-scale environments.
  • Strong understanding of databases, NoSQL systems, storage, and distributed persistence technologies especially in cloud
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, networking, and distributed systems fundamentals
  • Working familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures
  • Strong solving and performance tuning skills
  • Experience building multi-tenant, virtualized infrastructure a strong plus

US: Hiring Range: from $120,300 to $291,900 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
