Shipping & Receiving Maintenance Technician, Hospital Operations: College of Veterinary Medicine - UTIA

The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants to apply for the position of Shipping & Receiving Maintenance Technician. This position receives, sorts, documents, and delivers both perishable and nonperishable packages throughout the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and Veterinary Medical Center (VMC).  The incumbent also assists with ground maintenance tasks and assists the maintenance team as needed.

The Veterinary Medical Center is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year. Occasional weekend, evening, or holiday work may be required of this position.

• Receives/accepts, inspects for damages, and distributes all inbound freight, supplies, and equipment to all departments, approximately 150 or more parcels daily. 
• Validates delivery manifests to ensure accuracy of shipments regarding materials delivered and numbers of parcels delivered. 
• Accepts and distributes all gas and oxygen cylinders. 
• Distributes fluids and other medical supplies to locations in the Veterinary Medical Center in cooperation with Central Supply. 
• Makes arrangements for outgoing materials with delivery companies. 
• Maintains clean, safe, and secure dock area. 
• Makes sure dock and surrounding area is open for delivering drivers. 
• Returns shipments as needed, making sure the correct return authorization is attached to each carton and all paperwork is attached. 
• Because some parcels delivered to the CVM do not clearly indicate the person or room number intended to receive the parcel, the employee must locate and confirm the intended consignee. If this is not possible within reasonable efforts, the parcel will remain in the possession of the employee who will be responsible to notify an immediate supervisor. The parcel will remain with the employee until said consignee is identified.
• Assists with ground maintenance tasks, including mowing, emptying exterior garbage cans, and keeping the front parking lot, sidewalks, and surrounding areas of CVM clean and free of debris such as trash, leaves, and other items.
• Assists maintenance staff with work orders, routine building maintenance, painting, moving furniture or lab equipment, and room set-up & break-down for room seating, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed:

• Strong organizational and time management skills. 
• Ability to perform physically demanding manual labor such as lifting, pushing, pulling, etc. 
• Basic computer skills. 
• Ability to operate a fork-lift, scissors lift, and general power tools.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent. 1 year of relevant experience in shipping and receiving and/or general maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

2 years of relevant experience in shipping and receiving and/or general maintenance.

• Anticipated hiring range: $34K-$39K, depending on experience and qualifications
