We’re looking for an experienced, dependable, and flexible Certified Sonographer to deliver high-quality, compassionate care while performing diagnostic imaging procedures. This role requires critical thinking, initiative, and a commitment to excellence. You'll work independently and collaboratively to support patient care, ensure accurate diagnostics, and help create a safe, efficient, and positive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Imaging Excellence
- Perform ultrasound procedures in accordance with physician orders and departmental protocols
- Obtain patient history and assess for contraindications
- Ensure all images are clearly marked, labeled, and diagnostically sound
- Prioritize patient safety, privacy, and comfort at every step
- Recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately
- Follow pre- and post-procedural protocols, sterile technique, and safety standards
Education & Communication
- Clearly explain exams to patients to reduce anxiety and encourage cooperation
- Address patient concerns or escalate them when needed
- Use AIDET communication (Acknowledge, Introduce, Discuss, Explain, Thank) with patients and families
- Assist in training new team members
- Complete documentation accurately and legibly
- Stay up to date with daily communications and required training
Quality & Safety
- Consistently produce high-quality images reviewed positively by physicians
- Ensure equipment is calibrated and functioning properly
- Upload studies to PACS, complete documentation, and follow quality control protocols
- Maintain infection control standards and equipment cleanliness
Operational Support
- Transport and position patients safely and comfortably
- Stock supplies and maintain a clean, organized work area
- Provide assistance across modalities when needed
- Take call as required
- Support department goals through teamwork, flexibility, and professional accountability
Equipment & Compliance
- Operate all ultrasound equipment efficiently and safely
- Minimize radiation exposure while maintaining image quality (if applicable)
- Report equipment issues promptly and assist with maintenance
- Follow all Wellstar Health System policies and regulatory standards
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Radiologic or Sonography program required
Certifications:
- ARDMS or ARRT-S (Sonography) required.
- BLS from AHA required.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of clinical ultrasound experience in a hospital setting required.
Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Excellent customer service and patient interaction
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under pressure
- High attention to detail and adherence to protocols
- Professionalism, independence, and teamwork
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous learning
