CLASS TITLE: Head Teacher
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for successful implementation of learning experiences in the classroom and professional development support for early childhood staff. Acts as a program coach/mentor to early childhood teachers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for instructional planning, including, but not limited to, collaborating with administrative and support school staff to guide the implementation of all services within the school; observing, documenting, and sharing observations from each classroom individually with each teacher, as well as with the principal on a weekly basis to foster teacher development; participating in the development and implementation of each teacher’s professional development plan; collaborating with teachers on their lesson plans, TSG, schedules, and room arrangements to assure their accordance with CPS and CPC standards and requirements; assisting the principal with organizing and implementing program services by working with classroom teachers and other specialist staff (e.g., nurses, ELL teachers); supporting classroom staff in using data from Teaching Strategies GOLD™, CLASS, and other formative assessment tools to improve instruction; delivering pre-service and monthly in-service training sessions to teaching staff; verifying all teachers’ / classroom files are complete, organized, accurate, and confidentially maintained; supporting the principal in maintaining a safe and healthy Child-Parent Center (CPC) school environment; verifying classroom equipment, furniture, materials and supplies are properly maintained and stored; conducting daily health and environmental checks; guiding and facilitating activities of the children, including field trips, and selecting and arranging equipment and materials in the classrooms; completing and submitting required forms and records in a timely accurate fashion as requested by the principal; identifying and prioritizing materials and equipment needed in classrooms and playgrounds, and communicates particular needs to the principal; meeting with families as requested and on an ongoing basis to communicate activities, goals, and concerns; coordinating the transition of children to kindergarten.
