The University of Akron, Department of Student Recreation and Wellness Services is seeking a dynamic and creative Manager, Fitness & Wellness that will be responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive Fitness & Wellness Program for a diverse campus community. Working within the Division of Student Affairs in the beautiful Student Recreation & Wellness Center, the Manager, Fitness & Wellness is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the fitness & wellness program that meets the needs and interests of the UA student population and supports the development of programming for faculty, staff, and community. Specific responsibilities include:
Provide leadership and direction in the development and operation of a diverse fitness and wellness program schedule including, but not limited to; group exercise classes, revenue generating programming to include personal training, nutrition coaching, mind/body exercise prescription, strength and conditioning, special events, and wellness workshops. Implementation of new and innovative programs and/or services to remain current with industry trends while meeting the fitness and wellness demands of a campus population.
Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation of all fitness and wellness program staff to include: students and contracted instructors. Responsible for teaching classes and programs in the absence of available staff. Coordinate and administer inservice training &/or workshops for fitness and wellness program staff to ensure industry standards related to safety and instructional procedures are met.
Develop effective assessment tools that help guide the direction and decision making within the fitness and wellness program to include, but not limited to; participant and program data such as budget, participation numbers, monthly reports, and annual reports. Responsible for tracking usage of fitness and wellness spaces and programs and using information to guide decision making to establish a vision of short-term and long-term program area goals.
Develop and review as necessary policies and procedures for fitness and wellness program area to include but not limited to; risk management, staff development, and program development.
Develop a variety of effective promotional materials for fitness and wellness program and assist in delivering to the campus community via avenues such as print materials, online materials, & in-person marketing.
Assist with recommendations and purchasing of fitness and wellness program equipment.
Other duties as assigned to include but not limited to; serve on Departmental &/or University committees, assist in development of SRWS Department policies and procedures, assist in oversight of SRWS facility operations and program management.
Minimum Application Requirements include:
Education: relevant Bachelor's Degree
Experience: requires a minimum of one year experience in all aspects of managing fitness and wellness programming. Supervisory and staff/student development experience required. Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite of products, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks, strong oral and written communication skills, ability to work a non-traditional work week including nights and weekends, and ability to demonstrate a commitment to cultural competence and to work in a multicultural environment.
Licenses/Certification Requirements: CPR and First Aid certified, nationally recognized certification in personal training and group exercise (i.e., ACSM, NSCA, NETA, AFAA, ACE, ISSA) or ability to obtain within 6 months of hir

Compensation:
The compensation for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
