We're looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Identity Team at Zapier. We are on a mission to scale our Authentication and Authorization systems across the product and platform to provide the Access Controls and User Management our customers need! Would you like to join us?

About You

You love shipping to customers. You’ll be on a full-stack team focused on understanding internal customers' needs and translating those needs from specifications into functional, production-ready code. You know how to balance speed versus quality to support the features we build used by millions of people.

You have backend expertise to bring to the team. You have at least 5+ years of software development experience building complex web-based products. You bring best practices and institutional knowledge to help the team succeed. Zapier is built on Python, Django, React, Node.js, MySQL, PostgreSQL and AWS. We use modern tools, which means you’ll have the opportunity to work with software like GitLab, Kubernetes, Terraform, and much more.

You have Authentication and Authorization knowledge. You have a good understanding of Authentication protocols such as OAuth2, SAML, JWT, etc. Experience in implementing secure Authentication and Authorization mechanisms is crucial to the health and security of our platform.

You have worked on large, complex projects. You are familiar with micro-service architecture and understand how to design and build resilient code, consider tradeoffs where necessary and embrace ambiguity as new challenges arise.

You foster collaboration and communication. We pride ourselves in working together as a team, and with other teams across the organization. You'll often find opportunities to write code for cross-functional projects and guide other teams to integrate with our systems. Strong communication is also essential as you’ll support other Engineers, respond to bottlenecks, and keep everyone informed of your progress.

Things You'll Do:

• Develop and maintain our Authentication and Authorization systems to support the creation, expansion, and maintenance across our services as we scale.

• Build monitoring and observability for our services (SLOs, Alerts, Dashboards).

• Work cross-functionally with partnering teams to communicate technical direction and understand their needs.

• Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt or the most important areas to invest in.

• Contribute to Identity Platform initiatives to support the team and areas we own. This includes responding to bottlenecks and providing progress updates to stakeholders.

• Participate in our weekly On-Call rotation.

• Join our yearly company retreats that rotate to various cities throughout North America to meet and collaborate with Zapiens in person.
