Team Intro
The Civil Reponse Team is an integral piece of the Legal Compliance Operations pillar. You will be integral in ensuring that TikTok is a safe and trustworthy place for our community. The pillar is a specialized group covering Privacy, Intellectual Property & Identity and Legal Response.

As a Civil Response Specialist, you will lead and manage urgent legal requests, balancing legal risks with user privacy. Your role involves analyzing third-party data requests, preparing responses, and serving as the primary contact for these requests. You will collaborate with internal teams, develop compliance policies, and handle sensitive information in accordance with legal standards. Additionally, you will create documentation and procedures to support team growth and manage multiple projects, all while maintaining a focus on user privacy and operational excellence.

In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. We regularly review our hybrid work model, and the specific requirements may change at any time.
This position will be full-time and will be based in Los Angeles, CA, Mountain View, CA, New York, NY, or Washington D.C. locations.

Our Civil Response Team performs a critical function that supports our efforts to address objectionable or disturbing content. Content that the Civil Response Team Specialist interacts with includes images, video, and text related to every-day life, but it can also include (but is not limited to) bullying; hate speech; child abuse; sexual assault; torture; bestiality; self-harm; suicide; and murder.

It is possible that this role will be exposed to harmful content on a daily basis.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate operational excellence by evaluating legal risks while balancing user privacy.
- Lead urgent legal request escalations, liaising with Product, Policy, Communications, and Legal teams.
- Independently analyze and evaluate civil third-party data requests.
- Prepare responses to third-party data requests, serving as the primary contact and negotiating scope and consensus.
- Collaborate with legal counsel on complex civil litigation related to third-party data requests.
- Serve as a custodian of records.
- Develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance and support team and company growth.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional internal stakeholders.
- Gather and analyze data to ensure compliance and support growth across US and regional markets.
- Identify organizational problems and create proactive solutions.
- Manage multiple interdependent projects of moderate complexity.
- Operate in an environment with possible exposure to sensitive content, including child exploitation, graphic violence, self-injury, and suicide.
- Handle sensitive information in compliance with Terms of Service, laws, regulations, and internal SOPs, protecting user privacy.
- Create written and verbal responses to inquiries from attorneys, regulatory agencies, and government entities, as well as internal teams.
- Draft internal documentation, workflows, and procedures concerning safety and data disclosure.
