Senior AI Automation Engineer - (Remote - US)

Please note: This role is contingent upon a contract award. While it is not an immediate opening, we are actively conducting interviews and extending offers in anticipation of the award.

ICF is seeking a Senior AI Automation Engineer to support a major data modernization initiative with the Department of Transportation. This role is critical to accelerating and improving the accuracy of code development during the migration from legacy Oracle systems to a modern data analytics platform. The Engineer will lead the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of an AI automation sandbox that empowers engineers and developers to leverage cutting-edge AI-augmented development tools.

Job Location: This is a remote position. Occasional travel to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area may be required for key client meetings.

What you’ll be doing:

• Architect and maintain an AI automation sandbox environment using tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot Agent, and AWS Q.

• Lead context engineering efforts to ensure relevant codebases, documentation, and data sources are accessible and searchable by agentic coding assistants.

• Integrate and manage access to MCP servers, Unity Catalog, and legacy Oracle databases within the sandbox.

• Collaborate with developers and data engineers to optimize workflows and ensure tool functionality.

• Report to the Technical Lead and serve as a technical resource across engineering teams.
   

What you must have:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, AI/ML, or a related field.

• 5+ years of relevant experience

• Proven experience with Generative AI and LLM-augmented code development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot Agent, AWS Q).

• Expertise in context engineering and agentic frameworks beyond basic RAG applications.

• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.

• Familiarity with AWS services and infrastructure for deploying and managing AI tools.

• Understanding of Agile methodologies and DevSecOps practices.

• Must be eligible for federal clearance and pass a background check.
   

What we’d like you to have (preferred):

• Experience with MCP servers, Databricks, Unity Catalog, Spark, and Oracle systems.

• Familiarity with government data systems.

• Background in large-scale data migration projects.
