Job Summary:
A Wastewater Operations Technician II Sanitary operates and maintains equipment in a wastewater treatment plant. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a rotating shift with evening, night, weekend, holiday and callback hours as required or held over until properly relieved or for emergencies. Work is performed in a wastewater treatment plant where there is regular exposure to toxic chemicals, pathogenic bacteria, noxious odors and extremes of weather. Work requires moderate physical exertion.
Minimum Qualifications:
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
AND
Experience: Have three years of experience in operation, maintenance and minor repair of equipment in a wastewater treatment plant; or completion of the City's wastewater apprenticeship program.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE OR LEARNER PERMITS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
NOTE: YOU MUST UPLOAD A COPY OF YOUR VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE WITH APPLICATION AT TIME OF APPLYING.
Employees in this class are required to hold and maintain a valid Temporary State of Maryland Operator’s Class A and Class 5 Wastewater Collections Certificate, issued by the Board of Waterworks and Wastewater Systems Operators, throughout employment.
NOTE: No further testing is required at the completion of the City's wastewater apprenticeship program.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and minor repair of mechanical and electrical equipment at a wastewater treatment plant.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of the procedures involved in testing water samples and making equipment adjustments.
- Ability to read gauges and meters.
- Ability to perform arithmetical computations.
- Ability to complete records.

Background Check
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
Probation
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
Eligibility
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
