This entrepreneurial role will act to drive Alexion AstraZeneca Rare Disease (Alexion) and AstraZeneca value creation via its IP portfolio and strategic footprint in Ireland. This person is a strategic business advisor and key partner to the Alexion Pharmaceuticals International Operations (“APIO”) and the AstraZeneca Ireland Limited (“AZIL”) Board of directors and the Alexion leadership team. This role will demand a strategic mind-set focused on entrepreneurship, business planning, portfolio and business performance oversight, and driving value for the AstraZeneca in respect of its short- and long-term strategy for Ireland and the overall IP portfolio held in its Irish entities.

Governance & Policy:

• Support a robust corporate governance process for the relevant Board of Directors including contributing to a substantive agenda and supporting the meetings of the Boards.
• Liaise with senior business leaders to ensure the matters coming before the Boards are of appropriate substance and quality to enable investment decisions that maximize value of the portfolio and its performance and drive substance in Ireland.
• Co-ordinating with the Finance, Tax, Legal, Governance, and IP teams to ensure that activities of APIO & AZIL are aligned to needs of the enterprise and ensure both entities are maximizing the potential of the IP portfolios in support of the organization’s short- and long-term strategies.
• Proactively monitor and advocate for improvements on legislative and regulatory changes in areas relevant to the organization, identifying trends of key external authorities, and providing value add advice to senior stakeholders on potential impacts to inform decisions and make more accurate risk assessments.

Business Operations & Corporate Strategy:

• Lead on the ground and be entrepreneurial, partnering with key senior stakeholders to ensure Irish operations and value is fully utilized for both the AstraZeneca enterprise and for Alexion.
• Work with business leaders across R&D, Commercial, Tax, Legal, Portfolio Management, Business Development and other key functions to ensure the quality and substance of business cases presented to the APIO and AZIL boards.
• Provide strategic support to the Alexion business on internal and external engagement.
• Advise the business in respect of projects approved for Ireland hub.
• Engage with the Tax, Communications, Operations and other cross functional teams to ensure maximization of supports available to the enterprise (such as gaining investment into infrastructure builds in Ireland, liaising with the ministry of finance and other agencies to understand and drive beneficial tax incentives, liaising with external bodies such as the IDA to avail of granting and other partnership opportunities, and engaging national organizations for coalitions to drive AstraZeneca strategy)
• Provie strategic advice related to the Manufacturing and Operations area of the business, including advising on maximizing the overall financial position and value of the Irish entities.
• Partner with key internal stakeholders and functions to address business, legal or other queries and provide practical solutions that meet legal and regulatory requirements.

Experience & Capabilities:

• Clear understanding of the Irish environment and how companies can engage in Ireland to maximize their investment, strategy, and programs in Ireland.
• Business experience in Ireland of 8+ years, with demonstration of executing entrepreneurial projects in Ireland.
• Exceptional    interpersonal,    written,    and    verbal                         communications                skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues and concepts both internally and externally.
• Experience in engaging with executive stakeholders at the highest levels of a multi-national organization.
• Business experience within the pharmaceutical industry a plus.
• Experience with Intellectual Property a plus.
• Experience in negotiating and evaluating a wide range of agreements and documentation.
• Experience with building business cases and putting together briefings to communicate strategy and enable investment decisions.
• Strong business judgement and strategic thinking capabilities, with the ability to effectively balance business trade-offs and identify the implications of decisions quickly.
