Overview
Responsible for leading facility techs to ensure the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repairs of the mechanical and utility systems associated with the WuXi AppTec San Diego facility. This includes, but is not limited to, the building HVAC and chiller systems, house vacuum pumps, compressed air system, liquid nitrogen tank and distribution system, electrical system, boiler system, laboratory and Kilo Lab fume hoods, and associated utilities/equipment in the Pilot Plant. This includes performing maintenance/repairs as well as working with various external contractors and service providers.
Responsibilities
- Leads facility techs to ensure work is completed correctly and on time.
- Performs daily checks of the various mechanical and utility systems and equipment associated with the WuXi AppTec San Diego facility and make adjustments to ensure consistent operation (as necessary).
- Ensures that all mechanical equipment and utility systems are properly operated, maintained, calibrated, qualified, and/or validated (as necessary).
- Maintains emergency on-call services for the facility and responsible for communication with Security personnel.
- Communicates with Manager and Supervisor (Director of Pilot Plant Operations) and other colleagues to report routine events (i.e. equipment shutdown, impactful maintenance/testing, planned maintenance/calibration, etc.) and exceptional events (i.e. equipment operation issues, equipment out of calibration, etc.).
- Works with contractors and vendors as needed for equipment and facility improvements, maintenance, operational adjustments, calibration, etc. Presents work orders and quotes to management for approval.
- Responsible for the preparation and routine update of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that apply to the facility and associated mechanical and utility equipment.
- Interacts with HDB Operations, Analytical Development, Chemical Development, EH&S, and Quality groups in an effective manner.
- Works with Chemical Development to schedule repairs and updates (as needed) to the Kilo Lab and Pilot Plant equipment and suites.
- Order spare parts and necessary repairs/maintenance needed for all facility-related equipment and systems.
- Stay current in training to be competent in cGMP, EH&S, and Facilities procedures.
- Maintains maintenance and repairs for facility-related equipment to meet customer and business goals.
- Ensures cGMP compliance of facility-related equipment.
Qualifications
- 7-10 years’ experience in facilities maintenance.
- Experience in GMP and LMP manufacturing facilities.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Technical trade school or military training in mechanical systems.
Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:
- Technical Skills / Knowledge: Demonstrate leadership capability in maintenance and repair of facility-related mechanical equipment and utility systems. Must be able to work with building HVAC and chiller systems, vacuum pumps, air compressors, electrical systems, boiler systems, and chemical fume hoods (not exhaustive list).
- Problem Solving: Responsible for providing technical and trouble-shooting support to for laboratory/Kilo Lab/Pilot Plant utilities/equipment/Operations.
- Communication Skills:Effective communication (both oral and written) required to interact with mechanics, Analytical Development, Chemical Development, EH&S, Quality, Operations, and external vendors to accomplish goals.
- Leadership Activities: Supervise, mentor, and guide junior mechanics to enable them to be productive contributors and facilitate their mechanical knowledge and career growth.

- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE (i.e. lab coat, safety glasses, and gloves).

Anticipated salary range: $35.56 to $46.12
