Job Description

The NBCUniversal News Group is seeking a Senior Manager to own weekend coverage for its News Standards across all platforms and shows. Reporting to the Deputy Head of Standards, this Senior Manager will be part of the NBCU News Group Standards Team and provide support and guidance to journalists across all News Group platforms and shows, including NBC News, MSNBC and CNBC, along with digital and streaming outlets, with a particular emphasis on planning and executing Standards guidance during and in preparation for the weekends. They will work with editors and producers of weekend shows and coverage to set and maintain editorial and ethical guidelines and safeguard the credibility and integrity of our journalism on those platforms.


Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the reputation, journalistic integrity and editorial independence of the news organization.
  • Work with the senior level editorial team on reviewing reports for accuracy, fairness and adequate sourcing.
  • Primary relationships will include weekend shows and desk editors.  
  • Help establish overall news division wide standards policies and guidelines.
  • Provide advice to NBC News and MSNBC journalists (both on air and off) on news standards.
  • Ensure that new and current employees are continually educated on NBC News & MSNBC’s Standards & Practices policies – across all platforms.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, History or a related field of study.
  • 10+ years working experience within the news industry.
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced digital or television newsroom, along with having worked on major breaking news for a national or global audience, as well as long-form and investigative journalism.
  • Must have the ability to communicate and collaborate well with colleagues
  • Ability to communicate effectively and successfully with all levels of talent and management.
  • Ability to handle confidential material with utmost discretion.
  • Should be open and able to adapt to new approaches to content and storytelling.
  • Must have solid news and editorial judgment.
