Outpatient Surgery Coder

Description

The Coding Specialist - Outpatient Surgery Coder is responsible for accurately assigning and sequencing ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for outpatient surgery, observation, and ancillary encounters. This individual will work within Epic work queues, reviewing operative reports and clinical documentation to ensure compliant and accurate facility coding.

Responsibilities include:

Coding ambulatory surgery and observation encounters

Reviewing operative reports and assigning appropriate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes

Abstracting clinical and demographic data into hospital systems

Ensuring coding compliance with CMS, Medicare, Medicaid, and AHIMA/AAPC standards

Selecting APC assignments and validating claim readiness

Collaborating with physicians and clinical staff to obtain clarification when needed

Supporting emergency department and outpatient diagnostics coding as volume dictates

Maintaining departmental productivity and quality standards

Required

Completion of an AHIMA or AAPC approved coding program

4-5 years of recent hospital-based outpatient coding experience

Facility coding experience

Outpatient diagnostics coding experience

Experience cross-covering multiple outpatient work queues

Broad procedural coding experience across multiple specialties

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tampa, FL.

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $33.00/hr.
