Senior Director, R&D Financial Planning and Analysis

We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter who wants to join a fast growing company with life sciences pharmaceutical, clinical program and manufacturing support experience, whose key role and responsibilities will be to lead the R&D financial business partnering within the Chief Medical Officer organization.  This role will support all aspects of financial management, including decision support, strategic planning and financial stewardship.   This finance business partner will support the Executive Team and other key leaders to develop and present clear analysis and financial decision support to our various stakeholders and cross functionally through financial modeling, budgeting and forecasting and accounting for various initiatives.  This role reports into the FP&A function. Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions

• Key finance leader who partners and collaborates with business partners by gaining an understanding of the goals and overarching strategies of the business, effectively analyzing financial and non-financial information, and presenting high quality recommendations to support decision-making
• Lead finance collaboration within Asset Management Governance structure by demonstrating strategic, analytical, and collaborative role, combining financial expertise with an understanding of the investment landscape
• Ownership of the annual Budget, including forecast accuracy, monthly trend reporting, quarterly financial forecasts and effectively analyzing drivers behind monthly variances to budget/forecast and prior year; Collect and prepare comprehensive, accurate and timely financial analyses on actuals and KPIs, as well as comparisons against forecasts/ Budgets
• Management and construction of multi-year clinical programs/ projects with an emphasis on gathering and documenting critical assumptions i.e. stage gates, milestones and probability of technical success, etc.; Key financial contributor to the Strategic & Portfolio Committee on development and presentation of business cases and financial updates on clinical investments, in close collaboration with the Strategic Finance Team

• Key participant in the annual strategic planning process through close collaboration with R&D, Commercial, Strategic Finance, Corporate Development and other relevant functions; Proactively identify opportunities for cost efficiencies through gross margin or operating income

• Compiles data from disparate sources and from various departments to identify and assess performance and underlying trends with a focus on cost efficient initiatives through well thought out financial models and assessments
• Develop and maintain a monthly and quarterly rolling forecast for multi-year clinical projects and programs to be leveraged during annual budget process and strategic planning
• Provides accurate and timely processing of month end, quarter end and year end financial close requirements; Lead the team to prepare expense accruals; Close collaboration with Accounting team on month end close activities and spend variance analysis within various functions

• Ownership of the internal reporting packages and presentations with an emphasis on key insights that illustrate a well-thought-out story that is backed by strong data points and metrics and provides the business value added insight to enable business decisions

• Review new and existing vendor/ supplier/ CRO contracts for operational and clinical milestones and financial and accounting implications for forecasting and operational metrics
• Communicate with cross functional operational teams to develop and maintain performance against plan, whether budget, forecast, or prior year
