Interventional Cardiology Core Privileges includes the ability to perform history and physical examinations, admit, evaluate, treat, and provide consultation to patients of all ages with acute and chronic coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndromes, and valvular heart disease.Qualifications
M.D. or D.O. degree.Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways: An applicant who has just completed a fellowship shall provide his/her fellowship log with a minimum of 250 therapeutic interventional cardiac procedures documented and a letter of reference must come from the fellowship director. OR An applicant who is not applying directly out of a fellowship shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the past 24 months, including numbers of procedures performed morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications. For Interventional catheterization skills, applicants should provide documentation of 250 interventional procedures as the primary operator within the past 24 months and a letter of reference regarding competency from the director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at the institution where the applicant most recently practiced. OR If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s hospital-based clinical activity for the past 24 months is required. For Interventional catheterization skills, applicants should provide documentation of 250 interventional procedures as the primary operator within the past 24 months and a letter of reference regarding competency from the director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at the institution where the applicant most recently practiced. Oversight: The first 10 Cardiac Catheterization procedures at Sanford Medical Center will be performed under the supervision of the Medical Director of the Cath Lab or Physician Designee. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR INITIAL APPOINTMENT: Physicians trained in Cardiology fellowship programs may have variable levels of expertise in a variety of different areas, depending on the focus of their particular training experience. The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has defined the education, training, and experience necessary for many of these areas. The ACC 2008 Recommendations for Training in Adult Cardiovascular Medicine Core Cardiology Training (COCATS3) (Revision of the 2002 COCATS Training Statement) published January 22, 2008 are available at www.acc.org and was used as the foundation for the privileges in Interventional.
