National Security Solutions 2024 Internship – Novel View Synthesis for Enhanced Deep Learning
KBR, Inc.About the role
Title:
National Security Solutions 2024 Internship – Novel View Synthesis for Enhanced Deep LearningKBR is looking for highly motivated rising Juniors, Seniors and Graduate students seeking science, engineering and software development opportunities that provide challenging and meaningful work experience to be a part of our 2024 Intern class.
Intern Project Description: The selected intern candidate will develop a new approach for training deep learning algorithms for SAR-ATR that will lead to enhanced robustness, applicability, and performance. In recent programs, KBR has developed two important technologies. First, KBR has developed a suite of algorithms for training Deep Learning algorithms to perform classification of vehicles in SAR using purely synthetic data. Second, KBR has developed a new method for simulating "novel views" of targets, i.e., using a small set of collected target data and a sophisticated signal-processing approach to predict what collected data would look like at look directions not in the collected set. The aim of this project and intern will be to combine these two existing technologies to produce a new capability that will use synthetic data, collected data, and auto-generated "novel views" to train a classifier. We expect the new classifier to be applicable to a significantly larger problem domain than one trained on synthetic data alone, while maintaining the high level or classification performance.
Qualifications:
Software skills required: Demonstrated proficiency in Python. Software skills desired: Experience with modern packages used for machine learning (e.g., numpy, Keras, Tensorflow, Pytorch, pandas). Experience with MatLab. Educational experience required: Software development, signal processing. Educational experience desired: Image processing, Fourier processing, machine learning, statistics.
