Position Overview
The Bureau of Air is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to serve as Unit Manager of the Permit Section’s Modeling Unit in Springfield, Illinois. We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in air dispersion modeling for PSD permits for emission sources and air pollution control equipment, as well as proven experience leading or managing technical modelers.
The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. In this role, you will oversee a small team of technical professionals and regularly collaborate with colleagues across the Bureau of Air, the U.S. EPA, regulated industry, public interest groups, and your Section Manager. Essential Functions
- Plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of the Modeling Unit comprised of a large engineering and technical staff engaged in the performance of detailed air quality studies and modeling.
- Develops and implements specific State programs which involve stringent restrictions imposed by both State and Federal regulations regarding Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) and Environmental Justice (EJ) air quality reviews (reviews modeling protocols, evaluates model inputs and outputs, performs modeling audits).
- Coordinates the review and evaluation of technical reports describing results and recommendations, based on air quality studies performed by staff.
