The Department of Management, Strategy and Entrepreneurship (MSE) in the Edwin L. Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University is seeking to hire a non-tenure track Professor of Practice/Clinical Professor in entrepreneurship with a January 1, 2025 or August 1, 2025 start date. The successful candidate will also assume the role of Director of the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship. Thought leadership, a passion for spreading the entrepreneurial spirit, an ability to direct curriculum development and a broad-ranging repertoire of entrepreneurial experiences are essential. In addition to teaching duties, the candidate selected will be heavily involved in overseeing the entrepreneurial curriculum, which includes assessing content of existing courses and ensuring that the most qualified instructors are serving our students. Working with and mentoring students within and outside of the classroom along with activities related to the Caruth Institute are essential to this position. As one of the nation’s oldest entrepreneurship centers, the Caruth Institute teaches why the entrepreneurial mindset is so important for their careers and the innovation economy.
The Cox Innovation Triad differentiates the Cox School of Business with three complementary institutes working in concert to support student entrepreneurial activities. The Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship leads education on the entrepreneurial mindset and why it is so important for careers and the innovation economy. The Hart Institute for Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, or HI-TIE, provides opportunities for engineering and business students to co-create new products and develop business plans to bring these to market. The Williams S. Spears Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership facilitates student engagement with the North Texas ecosystem to build a lifelong community of experience, relationships, and resources. Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: Candidate’s should provide evidence of their entrepreneurial experience and possess a record of high-quality teaching. A Ph.D. degree is preferred but consideration with be given to candidates holding an MBA degree or the equivalent. In addition, the candidate should ideally have experience managing people, as the Director of the Caruth Institute will have direct reports.
Preferred qualifications: Established record of high-quality teaching along with demonstrated potential to teach MBA and undergraduate courses in entrepreneurship and an ability to provide thought leadership and curriculum oversight.
