About the role

The Summer Assistant Resident Director (ARD) will play a primary role in supporting our on-campus summer housing residential program under the supervision of a full-time resident director. This position will provide you with firsthand experience in overseeing the day-to-day operations of higher education housing while also providing supervisory and programmatic experience to the selected candidate.

STAFF SUPERVISION, RECRUITMENT, TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT: 

•   Assist in the supervision of a team of Resident Advisors (10 total)
•   Allow for the RD and ARD to discuss within themselves how the division of supervision should be handled.
•   Communicate regularly with Resident Advisors and other hall staff via weekly staff meetings, individual consultations, email, and daily personal contact.
•   Assisting in ensuring that Resident Advisors appropriately perform care and conduct procedures.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, ADVISING, AND RESIDENTIAL STUDENT ENGAGEMENT:

•    Foster a supportive multi-cultural environment through community programming and contact with students.
•    Assist in the counseling, advising, and referral process for residential students as appropriate including follow-up to ensure satisfactory resolution.
•    Assist Resident Advisors in developing intentional plans to further the academic, social, and personal development of summer residents.
•    Maintain a level of visibility in the assigned residential area and Student Housing Office.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT:

•    Attend bi-weekly Summer Planning meetings.
•    Assist in the scheduling and coordination of housing transitions and the associated administrative work.
•    Assist in the creation of schedules for Resident Advisors in relation to summer check in/out.
•    Maintaining 20 consistent office hours within the front desk of the Student Housing Office.
•    Assist in preparing and monitoring program and administrative budgets.
•    Assist in the implementation of building safety and security measures.
•    Perform other duties consistent with the purpose of the position as assigned.

Requisite Qualifications

  • Typically a Bachelor’s Degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, or closely related field or equivalent experience.  Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes

  • A minimum of one year of professional experience, post masters. Preferred experience supervising student staff.  Experience working closely with students from diverse backgrounds in a higher education setting.

  • Familiarity with and sensitive to the goals of Catholic higher education in an intercultural environment

  • Experience dealing with sensitive and confidential matters.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate staff and student relationships. Effectively supervise, lead, coach, evaluate, advise, and assist others.

  • Understand and apply conflict management and crisis intervention strategies.

  • Work autonomously and as a team member

  • Manage budgets and other resources

  • Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of Microsoft systems.
