Overview
Our Administration and Operations Summer Internship Program provides non-clinical (not patient facing) internship opportunities within hospital and corporate departments to high school, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. Our goal is to expose individuals to unique career pathways in healthcare leadership, management, and administrative fields while offering the tools, skills, and knowledge necessary to succeed within the industry.
Students are expected to participate in all HDOES-sponsored activities, including educational sessions and panels, engagement events, and the Awards & Recognition Ceremony at the end of the summer.
Department: Mount Sinai Doctors
This healthcare internship seeks to expose inner city high school students from underserved communities to career options in medicine and healthcare to which they might not be familiar. The internship will also allow students to learn about various fields in medicine, science, research, and health care administration.
The interns will be mentored and will be assigned a six-week work or research projects, such as: creating an informative brochure on careers in health care for other young people, designing a pamphlet on common health conditions, performing data entry, intern research, or review Excel spreadsheets, or developing a PowerPoint or social media presentation.
Interns will also have an opportunity to learn about lesser-known aspects of health care delivery and routine aspects of health care administration.
We intend for the internship to be multidisciplinary to expose interns to work with and shadow different members of the healthcare team: physicians, nurses, radiology technicians, physical and occupational therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, and social workers.
Eligibility
- Current sophomore, junior, or senior in high school OR undergraduate with an interest in pursuing a career in healthcare.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have a permanent resident card or VISA.

- Self-starter
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and written communication skills
- Ability to interact with multiple levels of staff
Compensation Statement
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $17.00 - $22.00 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
