About the role

We are looking for a talented Customer Engineering Product Specialist to join our team specializing in engineering for our Cummins’ business in Auburn Hills, MI.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Accelerate OEM program success by negotiating with SMEs and VPI teams to align on product data and installation requirements—reducing rework and shortening time-to-launch for Application Engineers and OEM partners.
  • Improve machine performance and quality through decisive product selection, design, and integration choices—optimizing system efficiency, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Elevate decision quality by applying and continuously refining core processes (Installation Quality Assurance, OEM integration, product selection) and tools (Advisor, COLS, GCE), enabling consistent, data-driven outcomes across programs.
  • Strengthen customer trust and responsiveness as the primary technical liaison—managing specs, communicating changes, resolving complex installation issues, and translating customer requests into actionable engineering solutions.
  • Drive winning product applications by leveraging deep product, application, and market expertise to guide OEM product selection and equipment design—ensuring solutions fit real-world environments and system constraints.
  • Convert the voice of the customer into requirements that influence program decisions—shaping design reviews, product change processes, and new product development to deliver features that matter most.
  • Assure flawless installations by validating prototype performance against Cummins requirements, using ALD and Six Sigma tools to optimize product/system performance and prevent downstream quality escapes.
  • Multiply team capability and throughput by leading smaller-impact projects or complex components independently, coaching junior engineers, and coordinating technicians and student employees—improving process maturity and delivery speed.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

Deep Technical Expertise & Problem-Solving Skills - Master machine integration, optimization, and product installation quality by applying Cummins’ standard tools, processes, and best practices. Understand customer needs deeply to translate them into actionable requirements and ensure uninterrupted business through proactive change management.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Resourcefulness - Develop networks inside and outside the organization to secure resources and drive results. Work effectively with SMEs, VPI teams, and OEM counterparts to align on product specifications, installation requirements, and innovative solutions that meet performance, reliability, and cost goals.

Decision Quality & Continuous Improvement Mindset - Make timely, high-quality decisions in complex situations using proven problem-solving techniques. Apply Six Sigma and Analysis Led Design tools to optimize product/system performance, minimize rework, and lead initiatives that improve processes and customer outcomes.
