Job Description Summary

The Violence Recovery Coordinator (VRC) will provide trauma-informed peer mentorship for violently injured individuals treated at Penn Trauma through the Penn Trauma Violence Recovery Program and assist the Violence Recovery Specialist and Supervisor. The VRC will provide peer mentorship to enrolled patients, working with them to identify needs and personal and community risk factors for recurrent violent involvement. The VRC will assist in the collaboration with community partner agencies to provide resources and support for needs and risk factors identified. Although individual needs will vary, topics will include psychological, social and system issues of trauma recovery, life goal setting, behavioral change, and increasing connections to school, family, social supports, and social services. The VRC will provide assistance in navigating medical, legal and financial issues related to the patient’s injury with the guidance of the Lead Violence Recovery Specialist.


The VRC will engage with clients via office, phone, and home visits and will collaborate with a broad interdisciplinary team at Penn Trauma, including Violence Recovery Program mental health providers. The VRC will maintain records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations and program requirements. They will maintain communication and collegial relationships with hospital staff and community partner agencies. VRC will assist with establishing new partnerships with community organizations with the goal of increasing support services available for enrolled patients. The VRC will assist with Trauma Prevention and Outreach Program community outreach activities and promote program visibility in the community. Additionally, the VRC will assist the Injury Prevention Coordinator in maintain ongoing communication with local law enforcement and community agencies involved with violence intervention and prevention. As part of the Violence Recovery Program, the VRC will coordinate with the Penn Community Violence Intervention Outreach team.


Position is contingent upon continued grant funding.


Qualifications: GED or High School Diploma and 5 to 7 years of experience
