Are you passionate about molecular biology and microbiology? Do you thrive in collaborative environments and have a keen eye for detail? The Mitchell Laboratory is seeking a dedicated Research Technician to join our dynamic team.
As a Research Technician, you will play a crucial role in assisting lab members with experiments and preparing lab reagents, supplies, and samples. Your responsibilities will include operating essential lab equipment such as incubators, thermocyclers, electrophoresis apparatuses, and spectrophotometers. You will also be tasked with maintaining lab inventories and ensuring compliance with OSHA, EHS, and Biosafety standards.
In addition to your technical duties, you will contribute to the overall maintenance of the lab, ensuring smooth operation of equipment and a well-organized workspace. Your participation in lab meetings and training sessions will be vital for enhancing your laboratory skills and procedures.

Opportunities to Contribute
Assembles, operates technical equipment
Sets-up and maintains equipment for the assigned laboratory and updates laboratory computers
Maintains inventory and orders parts and supplies as needed
Assists senior staff members in conducting major experiments and consults in developing procedures
Prepares reagents, supplies and samples for experiments
Assists undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdocs with their projects
Maintains detailed records of procedures performed and samples prepared
Participates in lab meetings and learns theory of experimental procedures
Participates in training and professional development sessions as needed, including training on laboratory procedures
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years of relevant experience which could include lab experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications
College Degree (Associates or Bachelor’s) in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry or Genetics conferred by start date
Experience performing experiments in a lab environment
Experience with aseptic technique and basic microbiology techniques
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
Ability to positively and professionally interact with colleagues
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Working knowledge of office software
Ability to learn new procedures and techniques
Ability to consistently follow and document protocols and procedures
Salary Rate: $15.85/hr
Special Note: This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance.
