The Community Research Group studies how community contexts, including the legal system, affect youth and families. Current research projects investigate 1) judicial decision making in civil protection orders cases, 2) procedural justice in remote immigration hearings, 3) experiences of first-generation students in higher education; and 4) well-being in community and professional settings. The research assistant is responsible for various tasks that ensure the daily functioning of the lab and facilitate the implementation of the lab’s research. The research assistant is responsible for managing participant recruitment as well as collecting, processing, and analyzing data.

Work Interactions

The Community Research Group at Georgetown University, directed by Dr. Jennifer Woolard, is hiring a research assistant. This assistant will report directly to Dr. Woolard and interact with undergraduate research assistants, graduate students, volunteer research assistants, and community partners/participants. The research assistant will be located in White Gravenor building but will spend time in the D.C. metropolitan area at various courts, organizations, and community locations.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or other related field

  • 1-2 years research experience in a psychology lab setting

  • Previous experience collecting and/or managing data collection

  • Research interest in community psychology, psychology and law, and/or developmental psychology on legal systems, adolescent development, and access to justice.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and ability to work independently

  • Previous experience with IRB protocols

  • Previous experience in data cleaning, management, and analysis

  • Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R)

  • Strong writing skills

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$18.28 - $27.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
