About this Role

Power Engineering Services, a Quanta Services Company, is looking for a Sr. Relay Technician to join our team in Converse, TX. (San Antonio Area)

 

As a Sr. Relay Technician at Power Engineering Services, you will be responsible for knowing how to perform basic and complex component testing. In addition, you must possess an understanding of troubleshooting for failed and questionable test results.

 

This position also requires self-disciple that you must utilize manuals to find information before reaching out to other senior technicians for assistance.

What You'll Do

  • Perform assigned responsibilities to the highest standard and ensure all applicable standards and expectations are met.
  • Monitor all required forms of communication to ensure all necessary information is received for all assigned projects.
  • Work with technicians to provide support as needed on all assigned projects and tasks.
  • Arrive on assigned jobs at the time designated by the project lead and senior technicians.
  • Ensure all test equipment is in working order and that all required equipment is available for the project.
  • Report to assigned senior technicians when arriving and departing all job sites to ensure all documentation is acceptable prior to leaving the job site.
  • Turn in all documentation to senior technicians every day prior to leaving the job site.
  • Ensure that all assigned scopes of work are performed in accordance with all applicable company and industry standards.
  • Ensure that all assigned tasks are performed to the highest standard to ensure that all results provided are indisputable.
  • Maintain accurate records of all activities performed on all assigned projects and deliver updates as required by the project management team.
  • Ensure all test equipment assigned to the project is correctly checked out and accounted for throughout the project.
  • Identify issues and topics that need to be addressed and trained on.
  • Ensure all safety policies are being followed and adequate for work being performed.
  • Create a culture of championing safety and ensuring all employees put safety at the forefront of every task.
  • Provide feedback to management on any issues that are preventing the team from championing safety.
  • Mentor and coach team members to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to improve field service operations.
  • Assist senior technicians in troubleshooting and solving complex issues.
  • Assist with testing, on all assigned scopes of work to include, but not limited to:
    • Low Voltage Equipment
    • Medium Voltage Equipment
    • Transformers
    • Motor Control Centers
    • VFD/Soft Starts
    • UPS and Battery Systems
    • MV Cables

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field (Preferred)
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
    • Advanced technology degree (Preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of NETA standards
    • NETA Certified
  • 10+ years of experience of the following:
    • Experience in testing Transmission protection schemes for Line, Bus, Bank, and Breaker Protection for Electrical Mechanical, Solid State, and Microprocessor Relays.
    • Understanding of Relay Simulation Test Equipment such as Doble, Megger, and Omicron.
    • Understanding of Relay Simulation Software such as Doble Protection Suite and Enoserv RTS.
    • Experience in testing Instrument Transformers such as CCVT’s, VT’s, PT’s and CT’s in breakers, Bus, and Power Transformers.
    • Experience in SCADA Points Testing for Energy Management Systems.
