About the role

Founded in Silicon Valley in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Andreessen Horowitz (aka a16z) is a venture capital firm that backs bold entrepreneurs building the future through technology. We are stage agnostic. We invest in seed to venture to growth-stage technology companies, across AI, bio + healthcare, consumer, crypto, enterprise, fintech, games, and companies building toward American dynamism. a16z has $90B under management across multiple funds.

We’ve established a team that is defined by respect for the entrepreneur and the company-building process; we know what it’s like to be in the founder’s shoes. We’ve invested in companies like Anduril, Airbnb, Coinbase, Cursor, Databricks, Deel, Figma, GitHub, Roblox, SpaceX, and Stripe. Our team is at the forefront of new technology, helping founders and their companies impact and change the world.

Applied Software Group at a16z

The Applied Software Group (ASG) operates like an internal startup within a16z. Our mission is to build software that helps the firm discover, evaluate, and support the most ambitious founders in the world. Our tools power how investment opportunities are sourced and evaluated, how relationships are formed, and how knowledge flows across the firm.

We work with a tight feedback loop — partnering directly with investors and operators to understand their workflows and rapidly ship improvements. Leveraging modern AI models, large-scale datasets, and fast iteration cycles, we build software that helps a16z make better decisions and support enduring technology companies.

The Role

You will have the opportunity to meaningfully impact how our internal teams and partners operate, while helping shape the culture of design and technology within the firm.

  • Prototype concepts in Figma or other tools to communicate interactions, flows, and design intent
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure high-quality execution
  • Contribute to and evolve our design system
  • Participate in user research and incorporate feedback into your work
