Purpose of Role
The Athlete Intelligence Lead is a vital role in our Innovation, Development, and Testing (IDT) department aimed directly at the heart of what we do: making athletes better by providing them performance solutions they never knew they needed but, once they have it, they won’t imagine being able to live without. This position will seek to understand every aspect of an athlete’s journey to identify opportunities, both present and future, to support them on and off the field. This function will synthesize data collected from athletes and identify product solutions that address these opportunities. This role will feed this intelligence to our idea intake model, then collaborate with our Product teams to foster the development and adoption of these solutions into product that makes athletes better.

- Blending expertise in sport science research, consumer insights, and product development, Athlete Intelligence Lead’s mission is to empathize with and translate the athlete journey – train, compete, recover, and lifestyle.
- Athlete intelligence Lead must be open-minded, collaborative, and creative – distilling multiple data sources to deliver impactful product briefs rooted in real, deep athlete needs.
- They are eager to explore and identify new human research opportunities, formulate objectives, and lead the project team into uncharted spaces.
- This role inspires the brand with meaningful and actionable product recommendations that resonate, inspire, and challenge the status quo.
- Internally Athlete Intelligence Lead is part of and works closely with the Innovation, Testing, and Development organization – including Biomechanics, Product Development, Product Creation, and Product Testing. Additionally, they must foster relationships across Under Armour with Strategy, Operations, Consumer Insights, and more.
- Externally the Lead is connected with existing relationships of athletes, industry experts, and research partners – also is instrumental in exploring and cultivating the next source of inspiration to tackle business challenges through research-driven partnerships and opportunities.

Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the sportswear and/or fitness industry.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including communicating and presenting to stakeholders throughout the organization.
- Strong interviewing (in-person and virtual), focus group facilitation, and market research skills.
- Skilled at distilling complex information into actionable insights that drive innovative products to enhance athlete performance.
- Results-oriented with a high sense of urgency and self-motivation; adept at balancing multiple projects and effectively utilizing all available resources.
- Extensive experience leading or significantly contributing to enterprise-level innovation concepts and ideas related to athletes and products – build and foster the vision from concept through delivery.
- Ability to collaborate professionally and efficiently within their team and cross-functionally and with external partners.
- Well informed and stays connected to sports, cultural, and societal trends
- Ability to build a self-initiated portfolio of exploration work while driving existing projects and programs
- Knowledge of the scientific method, including but not limited to observation, hypothesis formulation, experimental design, statistical analysis, and interpretation of results.
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred (Exercise Science, Physiology, Market Research, Consumer Insights, Perception Science)
