We are looking for a Principal Data Engineer to work on a project in the Healthcare industry.

You will be part of a distributed team developing new technologies to solve real business problems and your work will allow our client to more efficiently provide better care to their members. You will play a pivotal role in building and maintaining the data infrastructure that is the core asset of the client’s company.
We are looking for an experienced and passionate engineer who can methodically and creatively add value to the business and organization. You will come in ready to help define the data ingestion, ETL and vendoring process of the core data responsible for driving the client’s product. This will require a strong background of data architecture and data engineering best practices.
Finally, we are looking for someone who is a deeply curious individual, and has demonstrated continuous effort to satisfy that curiosity, through research, organizing, and teaching.
What you will do:
- Lead and mentor a dynamic team of data engineers, ensuring smooth management and optimization of healthcare data systems and processes. Architect and develop scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to collect, process, and analyze large volumes of healthcare data.- Collaborate with data scientists, product teams, and user experience experts to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.- Design and optimize data models and databases to ensure efficient data storage, retrieval and analysis.- Implement best practices for data quality, data governance, and data security to ensure compliance and privacy.- Collaborate with external partners and vendors to integrate data sources and systems effectively.- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior members of the data engineering team.- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends in data engineering and contribute to the continuous improvement of the data infrastructure.
What you will bring:
- 8+ years of experience delivering results-oriented development within a collaborative environment.- Previous experience in leading international and distributed teams. - Experience with Python, NoSQL databases and Data Lake.- Experience in designing and implementing scalable data pipelines using modern data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Kafka).Experience setting up cloud-based data pipelines.-Experience with serverless data pipelines.- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS.- Deep understanding of data governance, data quality and data security principles.- Previous experience in regulated environments and knowledge of privacy and security considerations in data engineering.- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a passion for building robust and efficient data solutions.- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.- Flexibility to occasionally align with the Eastern Time (ET) zone to accommodate client needs.
Nice to have:
- Experience with relational databases, PostgreSQL in particular.- Experience with Terraform.- Prior exposure to the healthcare, insurance, or fintech industries is a bonus, along with a genuine passion for our mission.- Experience with startups is not necessary, but you should be looking forward to bringing order, power, and role definition to an initial blank slate.
