The Oregon Department of Corrections is currently recruiting for a Facility Energy Technician. This exciting employment opportunity is with the Oregon Department of Corrections at the Oregon State Penitentiary (OSP) in Salem, Oregon.

This position is represented by Association of Oregon Corrections Employees (AOCE). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

About the Job – Your Role

As a Facility Energy Technician 2, you will supervise Adults in Custody (AIC) work crews operating outside the secure perimeter of the institution. You will direct daily work activities to ensure compliance with all applicable rules, policies, procedures, and security guidelines while maintaining discipline, safety, and order. This role includes training AICs in proper work techniques and safe, efficient operations, evaluating performance for work assignments, and participating in the selection of AIC workers. You will also conduct searches of AICs and work areas to ensure the absence of contraband, while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

In this role, you will perform preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and operation of heating plant systems and equipment, including high-pressure steam boilers, potable water, and condensate systems. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining fuel, feedwater, and chemical systems; conducting chemical testing and treatment of water supplies; and ensuring all systems function safely and efficiently. You will also complete fabrication and repair of metal structures, perform routine building maintenance, and carry out insulation work in accordance with environmental regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

Your application materials will be reviewed to verify that you have:

• Completion of a recognized HVAC/R apprenticeship program or a two-year HVAC/R accredited trade school in heating and air-conditioning or refrigeration AND one (1) year of full-time experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position; OR
• Three (3) years of full-time experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position; OR
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

NOTE: Some positions may require a Boiler Control Endorsement, a Certified Brazing Certificate, or a Universal Refrigerant Handling certificate.  Agencies will note this requirement at the time of recruitment.  A copy of this license must be attached to your application.
