Position Summary

This is a full-time Senior Scientist position for health services research. This position is responsible for collaborating with the Principal Investigator (PI) on the design, conduct and reporting of research projects; collaborates on and helps lead the design, conduct, and dissemination of complex health services and policy research projects.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the PI on the design, conduct, and dissemination of complex health services and policy research projects.
  • Conducts complex statistical programming, data management and analyses of large health care datasets such as Medicare claims, and statistical and econometric analyses.
  • Complies with established IRB, data use, and funder (e.g., NIH) agreements, and maintains required documentation.
  • Assists with supervision and training of other staff members.
  • Assists with Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Data Use Agreement submissions and reporting.
  • Assists with grant preparation and reporting. May submit grant proposals with the approval of the PI.
  • Prepares and submits papers on research to peer-reviewed journals.
  • Develops hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
  • Manages research projects with other institutions and investigators.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Location

This hybrid position works in a medical school academic office location in St. Louis, MO. The individual must come into the office for work 2-3 days every two months; scheduled work from home is permitted.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in health services research, health economics, health policy, public policy, or related degree with substantial quantitative (e.g., statistics, econometrics) and health policy training plus at least 3 years of related full-time work experience.
  • Analytical, quantitative, and verbal reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in the U.S. health system, especially the Medicare program.
  • Deep knowledge of and working expertise in large health care datasets, especially Medicare claims data.
  • Highly skilled and experienced in SAS, Stata, and/or R Studio programming.
  • Ability to communicate in oral and written form with all levels of personnel and technical publications.
  • Ability to work well independently or as a team member

Required Qualifications

PhD, M.D. or equivalent terminal degree and at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 12 years.

Salary Range

$63,400.00 - $115,000.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
