Senior's Transportation Aide

The City of Johnson City Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Senior's Transportation Aide. The employee performs custodial tasks including all duties associated with cleaning of facility and facility set-ups/take-downs. Performs cleaning and landscaping duties for the Center grounds. Performs responsible semiskilled work providing transportation, bus and van maintenance, technical and clerical tasks; provides bus transportation to and from the Center and community locations. Daily custodial tasks are performed to maintain the cleanliness and efficient operation of the facility and offices. Grounds work will include planting shrubs/bulbs, trimming shrubs, mulching and weeding of plant beds. Parking lots are kept clean of leaves and debris. Employee keeps weekly schedules of transportation runs. The employee also performs clerical work related to the transportation program. This position provides transportation to and from the center and coordinating locations. This work involves considerable direct contact with the public and is usually performed in accordance with specific instructions from the Seniors' Transportation and Maintenance Coordinator. Progress is reviewed for compliance with instructions. Cleans vehicles inside/out a minimum of once per week.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of vehicle maintenance and ability to drive a bus. General knowledge of custodial services and facility maintenance. Basic knowledge of landscaping and grounds maintenance. Thorough knowledge of state driving rules and regulations; thorough knowledge of city streets and the location of appropriate buildings and centers; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to deal tactfully and courteously with senior citizens; patience in dealing with senior citizens; willingness to learn and perform assigned tasks.

Acceptable Experience and Training: Graduation from high school or GED; or any equivalent combination of experiences in training which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. Possession of a Class C CDL with P endorsement driver's license issued by the state of Tennessee. CPR and First Aid certification. Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required.
