Job Profile SummaryThe Deputy Chief of Police supports the District Chief of Police in managing public safety and law enforcement operations, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for the Austin Community College (ACC) community. This role balances effective law enforcement with community policing, fostering positive relationships across campus and the district. The Deputy Chief manages Lieutenants, who oversee Sergeants and Officers and serves as acting Chief in the Chief’s absence.

Description of Duties and Tasks
Emergency Response and Law Enforcement Oversight:
Responds promptly to emergencies, providing real-time leadership and ensuring coordinated law enforcement actions.
Directs investigations into criminal activity, violations of college policy, safety risks, and traffic accidents, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution.
Community Policing and Outreach:
Develops and implements community policing strategies that build positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and local communities.
Oversees crime prevention programs, including outreach initiatives focusing on personal safety, mental health awareness, and threat mitigation.
Leadership and Personnel Management:
Supervises three Lieutenants who oversee Sergeants and Officers, ensuring consistent operations across all campuses and shifts.
Manages employee files, performance evaluations, and complaints in compliance with College policy and applicable laws and regulations.
Oversees the review and approval of requests for outside employment in accordance with departmental and institutional guidelines.
Collaboration and Campus Engagement:
Builds partnerships with campus staff, faculty, and student organizations to align public safety initiatives with institutional goals.
Coordinates with external law enforcement, emergency responders, and mental health services to enhance campus safety and response capabilities.
Crisis Management and Preparedness:
Assists in developing, updating, and implementing threat assessment protocols, emergency response plans, and crisis management procedures.
Prepares the department for active shooter scenarios, natural disasters, and other emergencies through drills and training programs.
Strategic Planning and Operational Oversight:
In the absence of the Chief of Police, serves as the acting District Police Administrator to ensure continuity of leadership and operations.
