About the role
Apex.AI is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to develop a framework related to Hardware Accelerators and develop applications with our product teams.
Your role will be to be part of the team that develops an abstraction framework for hardware accelerators and integrate them with our Apex.Grace middleware framework. Our ideal candidate has in-depth experience with the entire application acceleration ecosystem. The examples you build will be vital in helping Apex.AI solve some of the challenging problems that our customers face when taking robotics applications into production.
This position is located in our Palo Alto office. Authorization to work in the US is required
Apex.AI is a Palo Alto, Berlin, Stuttgart, Munich and Gothenburg-based company that is developing breakthrough safe, certified, developer-friendly, and scalable software for mobility systems. Our software products are based on proven open-source software, such as ROS or Eclipse iceoryx, so that we don’t spend time redeveloping what already works. Instead, we fork software that has been developed and proven in use by large developer communities. We then add what is missing: Functional safety, flawless performance, and support for application in commercial and safety-critical products. In order to do so, we have developed a proprietary process to rework open-source software in record time such that it conforms to the highest requirements of the applicable functional safety standard.

What you'll do
- Understand the entire application acceleration ecosystem to implement solutions to help with platform independence.
- Define hardware accelerators abstraction framework
- Lead the hardware accelerators abstraction framework working group
- Help integrate customer uses cases of application acceleration into Apex.AI hardware accelerators abstraction framework
- Present our technology to our customers and partners to help integrate their applications into Apex.Grace framework
You have
- A B.S. or higher degree in a technical field
- 10+ years experience in a similar role
- Experience working on the different layers (ML frameworks, inference engines, accelerator kernels) of the application acceleration stack
- Experience working with different types of hardware accelerators (GPUs, FPGAs)
- Experience with accelerator libraries (CUDA, Vulkan, OpenCL, Vitis…)
- Robust software design and testing skills
- Good understanding of C++
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
- Experience with git, GitLab or similar tools
- Being self-motivated, comfortable in operating without direct supervision
Great to have
- Experience with ROS2 framework
- Experience evaluating AI algorithms for autonomous driving
- Experience working with SYCL
- Experience in automotive and industrial robotic software development
- Experience with Bazel build system
