Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) is the premier organization for mechanical hardware design, development, production, and research.  ME strives to minimize total systems cost, while maximizing production. This is achieved through commitment, training and continuous improvement using common tools and processes. The capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, operations, technical services, materials and processes, analysis and test and documentation.  

The Mechanical Engineering Department is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to provide mechanical and hardware systems engineering expertise and support across locations in California, Texas, and Massachusetts.

The candidate will report directly to a Mechanical Design and Production Support section in the department.  The mechanical engineer position is to perform research, design, analysis, and development in such areas as mechanical systems, thermal systems, materials, test equipment, hardware processes, or manufacturing processes.

  • The position is for the San Diego, California location.  This position is an onsite role.

What You Will Do

  • Use preliminary sketches, diagrams, and other engineering information to generate 3-D design models and/or conceptual designs.

  • Supporting detailed designs, working with design leads, or implementing COTS installation activities.  

  • Working within a team environment to develop innovative mechanical subsystems with solid modeling practices and drawing creation using CAD tools such as Creo Parametric, Solidworks, AutoCAD or equivalent.

  • Experienced with solid modeling practices and drawing creation using CAD tools such as Creo Parametric, Solidworks, AutoCAD or equivalent.

  • General knowledge of machining and sheet metal fabrication processes, capabilities and limitations

  • Processing TDP release and Change Notices (CN)

Qualifications You Must Have  

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of professional engineering experience.

  • Experience in developing mechanical component or assembly design and/or drawings using CAD software.

  • Experience with Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) Hardware Design, Assembly, Installation, Integration, and/or Test.

  • Experience with applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5M-1994.

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued TS/SCI security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Familiar with mechanical design applications and fabrication processes

  • Experience with Command and Control or Naval Systems product areas

  • Experience with Creo Parametric CAD tool

  • Experience with hands-on work, i.e. electronics packaging, HW assembly and deployment, field installation.

  • Experience with Windchill 10.0 PDM link or an equivalent configuration management system
