Job Description:

Broadcom’s Mainframe Software Division (MSD) is looking for an excellent software engineer with a passion for building high quality applications using agile practices to join our development team working on the solution in the area of Workload Automation. 

Mainframe systems are at the heart of the digital economy, with 80% of the world’s structured corporate data residing or originating on mainframes, and 55% of all enterprise applications hitting the mainframe to complete transactions. Our industry-leading products are critical to many Fortune 1000 companies. 

We are looking for a team member to contribute to the JCL Check Workload Automation project. The product consists of a backend assembler language component running on the mainframe, with Java and C applications that interact with the backend to provide a Rest API and VSCode integration. Applied experience with CI/CD practices and tools for orchestration, deployment and testing is a plus.  

This position is responsible for creating, testing, ensuring the quality of and maintaining a product or product line. The R&D Software Engineer 5 will perform complex code modification, testing, and debugging tasks, as well as provide high level analysis related to software design and development. The person in this role is expected to act as a technical lead within a small team, advising, mentoring and coaching more junior developers and partnering with stakeholders such as Product Owners, Solution Architects etc.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Work collaboratively within an Agile Team to write high quality, testable code that meets the Definition of Done.

  • Adopt a test-first approach to software development in which, where possible, the test is developed before the code.

  • Participate in design and code reviews with other engineers.

  • Create automated unit, system, and acceptance tests.

  • Participate in test plan reviews.

  • Perform unit/module testing of software.

  • Responsible for assigned integration, testing, and deployment tasks.

  • Actively foster continuous team improvement in self and team:

  • Contribute to team retrospectives; help to identify and resolve team impediments.

  • Take ownership of problems and continuously strive to become a better problem solver.

  • Write and maintain documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections.

  • Actively communicate and collaborate within the team and across functional boundaries.

  • Improve the overall skill level of the team by mentoring / teaching / coaching.

Preferred Education

Bachelor's degree or global equivalent in a related field.
