Job Description
The Scrum Master serves as the servant leader to their teams continuously working to help their teams establish an effective and efficient flow of value to their customer by sparking continuous improvement of its practices, growth and development of its members, and engineering of effective and efficient team of team structures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Models ethical behavior and executes job responsibilities in accordance with Citizens core values, ethics, and information protection policies.
Serves as Scrum Master for 2-3 teams facilitating planning events such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and PI planning events. Enables team to establish and maintain alignment with other teams. Coaches Product Owners for team they serve on effective product management practices.
Facilitates collaborative team competency and health assessments and in-turn, the development of unique growth and development paths. Contributes to the training, mentoring, coaching and adoption of new competencies and skills that lead to new levels of team capabilities.
Enables their teams to hold themselves accountable for maintaining focus on quarterly objectives, sprints, goals, quality, and the continuous delivery of value. Helps teams adopt methods for establishing psychological safety and “safe to fail” culture.
Leverages advanced facilitation skills and ability to customize the agendas of agile ceremonies to best fit the needs of the team while still producing both desired and mandatory outcomes. Trains and mentors team members on facilitation and demonstration skills.
Proactively identifies impediments and appropriately resolves or escalates using network of peers and formal channels. Represents teams at team-of-team events such as Scrum of Scrums. Facilitates resolution of conflict within team.
Enables the ability of teams to effectively match performance metrics to desired goal state and to in-turn track, interpret and action each effectively. Observes while enabling team to reflect on performance to spur continuous improvement and progress in pursuit of team goals. Helps team foster team growth and pursuit of t-shaped skills.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of Agile and Lean practices, principles, and patterns for adoption of Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe.
Software development lifecycle and system engineering concepts, methods, and techniques.
Knowledge of value delivery tools.
Understanding of differences in facilitation, coaching, mentoring, and training methods.
Knowledge of team collaboration techniques.
Interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
Provide servant leadership, work well within a team.
Ability to coach, facilitate, train, and mentor.
Lead adoption of lean agile practices and principles.
Ability to apply systems thinking to solve problems and identify improvement opportunities.
Proficient with Agile delivery tools (e.g., Rally, ServiceNow)
Planning and organizational skills.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Bachelor’s Degree (Information Technology, Computer Science or similar) OR 4 years relevant experience OR a combination of college education and relevant experience equivalent to 4 years.
Other Certifications/Licenses Required: Scrum Master or SAFe Level II
AND
3 or more years’ experience working as a Scrum Master, in an Agile environment, with hands on Agile Life Cycle management tools (for example – Rally).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with property insurance systems development or maintenance.
