Strategy, Learning and Impact Associate
Omidyar NetworkAbout the role
About Omidyar Network (ON):
Established by philanthropists Pam and Pierre Omidyar, Omidyar Network is a social change venture that has committed more than $1.86 billion to innovative for-profit companies and nonprofit organizations since 2004. Omidyar Network reimagines critical systems, and the ideas that govern them, to build more inclusive and equitable societies—for the benefit of the many, not just the few. Omidyar Network partners with funders, advocates, innovators, businesses, scholars, and others to advance responsible technology, reimagine capitalism, and build cultures of belonging so that all individuals have the social, economic, and democratic power to thrive.
About Strategy, Learning, and Impact at Omidyar Network:
Our Strategy, Learning, and Impact approach is rooted in ON’s drive towards much improved outcomes for individuals and societies, while understanding that there is no one right answer or straight road when working with complex problems and systems. We drive and support the development of the overall strategy of the firm and help set goals and other key parameters for the underlying programmatic portfolios of work. Program teams are then empowered to test and update their approach as they learn with partners and adapt to changing context, and we develop the learning processes to support this. We identify patterns and sense-make together so that we can deepen our collective understanding and use it to inform decisions and actions. Our learning and evaluation is forward looking, designed to inform improvement and adaptation. We assess our contribution to system outcomes on a multi-year cycle, recognizing change takes time and is not linear. We pay attention to many forms of evidence and ask evaluative questions on an ongoing basis to understand progress, context and health of the system, if our approaches are playing out, and why (or why not).
ON’s Strategy, Learning, & Impact team is responsible for creating the systems, processes, resources, and spaces to guide this practice. We operate with clear leadership support, housed within the Office of the CEO and in close partnership with our Programs team colleagues.
About the Associate Program:
Omidyar Network offers a unique platform for early career professionals to work alongside our colleagues and network partners toward our shared goal of building more inclusive and equitable societies. Our Associate Program is a two-year program that features opportunities to learn and contribute to creating conditions for systems change.
Omidyar Network Associates play a critical role in our work to set organizational strategy and foster the conditions that put learning and adaptation at the core of decision-making. The associate program provides candidates the opportunity to have a meaningful, hands-on experience in the philanthropic sphere, and associates benefit from mentorship from experienced Omidyar Network colleagues.
