Allianz Commercial, North America is seeking an effective leader to lead the Liability Underwriting Function in the North American region.  We are seeking an effective leader with self-confidence, strong communication and management skills, creative, analytical and innovative thinking, perseverance, with a willingness to take risks and an openness to change.  The effective leader that we are seeking at Allianz Commercial will: 

• Develop and execute the Liability regional strategy and proactively support the development of the global Liability strategy. 

• Proactively steer Liability portfolio to ensure the successful achievement of the global Allianz Commercial Liability targets. 

• Provide clear vision and leadership to regional Liability UW staff.  Actively develop talent portfolio to ensure the successful achievement of the regional Allianz Commercial Liability targets. 

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients 

 

The Regional Head of Liability (m/f/d), that we are seeking can be based in the following field offices: New York, NY, Chicago, IL, Alpharetta, GA or O’Fallon. MO. 

  

Some specific responsibilities could include: 

Lead and Manage Underwriting Team 

• Leading and managing regional team, including direct reports and matrix management of functional reports. 

• Managing the cost center budget within plan.   

 

Underwriting Strategy 

• Developing and executing local portfolio strategy for Liability and ensure UW execution on strategy 

• Supporting the development of global Underwriting Liability strategy, in line with AzC Global Liability CUO 

• Supporting the development of cross Liability regional strategy, in line with R&M and Regional CEO 

 

Steering and Controlling 

• Steering and controlling regional Liability portfolio to drive achievement of financial targets (e.g. full combined ratio). 

• Driving underwriting planning process and monitor adherence to plan, taking corrective action as necessary. 

• Proactively liaising with functional areas to review performance of end to end Underwriting life cycle. 

 

Underwriting Approach and Compliance 

• Ensuring  underwriting consistency and underwriting discipline and adherence to all corporate guidelines and authority levels, including Rules and Principles, Underwriting Authorities, corporate governance rules, and local regulatory framework. 

• Referral / case Underwriting of key clients as required. 

 

Product Development 

• Proactively supporting development and implementation of new and modified products. 

• Proactively support development and implementation of pricing tools 

 

Market & Relationships Management 

• Proactively support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business (including client and broker negotiations where necessary). 

• Coordinate with local Distribution Team to drive successful execution of strategic plan. 

• Maintain executive contacts and accompany the Underwriting of all core or strategic accounts. 

• Positively represent AzC internally within the Allianz Group, and externally to the market. 

• Proactively drive involvement of functional areas in Underwriting process, including e.g. Distribution, ARC, Claims, Operations 

 

What You’ll Bring to the Role 

• Master’s Degree - Preferable Degree in Economics, Law, or other appropriate discipline. 

• Trade Qualification - Completion of professional insurance certification such as CPCU or SCLA.
