This requisition is for an RTX intern returning for an internship in 2026.

The Materials and Process (M&P) Engineering Departmant helps with selection and testing of Materials for a set of programs at Raytheon.  The Department is seeking an Intern to work in Materials Engineering Laboratory in Tucson AZ.  This position will offer a qualified intern candidate the opportunity to solve engineering problems by performing analysis on various materials.   The primary responsibilities require assessing materials based on conformance to specifications or conducting root cause failure analysis leveraging knowledge of materials and usage.  Tasks will require quick turn of analysis working with a multi-discipline team, requiring careful attention to detail and can be repetitive at times.  This is not a research position, but instead requires solving engineering problems and providing engineering solutions within a short period of time (days or weeks).

Collaboration with engineers, subject matter experts, and suppliers is required.  This Candidate must be able to manage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements, while spending much of their time in the laboratory.  As such, this position is an onsite role.  This candidate will become part of a multi-disciplined team.

What You Will Do

  • Collaboration with coworkers and teams within a lab environment onsite.
  • Majority of daily work is in a lab environment performing analysis using instruments and then documenting results.
  • Assessing materials based on conformance to specifications or conducting root cause failure analysis

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Must be a Junior by the start of Summer 2026 in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Material Science knowledge of material testing/analysis such as sample preparation, cross sectioning, etc.
  • Understanding of material safety datasheets and Military Specifications

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Seeking a BS or MS degree in Material Science discipline, Engineering or Chemistry (ACS Certified). 
  • Understanding of instruments used to measure material properties. 
  • Good communication, interpersonal, planning, teaming and time management skills
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with excellent written skills

    The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
