JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
A full-time Research Project Manager position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Yongsoo Kim in the Neuroscience & Experimental Therapeutics Department at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey PA. The lab focuses on understanding the cell type architecture of the nervous system and how it supports cognitive functions in the mammalian brain using mice as an animal model. Main brain diseases of interest are neurodevelopmental disorders including autism and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Our main research tools are whole brain mapping methods using high resolution 3D imaging and related computational analysis in the mouse brain. The successful candidate should have prior experience working with rodent models and microscopic imaging data. The principal role of the job includes performing mouse colony management, genotyping, high resolution whole brain imaging, data analysis, and other research supportive work for the lab. Additional laboratory responsibilities will include supervising students, ordering supplies, ordering and management of laboratory animals, management of laboratory expenses, assisting with data analysis and safety protocols, and upkeep of equipment. Candidates must be willing to learn new techniques and be responsible, self-motivated, conscientious, flexible, a good communicator, and possess strong organizational skills. Preference will be given to candidates that possess the above skill sets.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree
No prior relevant work experience required
An equivalent combination of education and experience accepted
Preferred Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or any other related field
Master’s degree preferred.
At least 2 years of laboratory experience.
This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.
