Job Description

General Summary:    

The Program Manager will be responsible for supporting the design, development, implementation, and continued evolution of Improvement Science programs and offerings. The Program Manager will collaborate with leadership through these phases including appropriate transition requirements to ensure sustainability of these programs. Under the leadership of the Director of Improvement Science, this position leads the coordination and oversight of the Improvement Science service function accountable for spreading and advancing quality improvement and safety knowledge and insights into, across, and outside of Lurie Children’s, insuring on-time, on-budget completion of the work efforts. The position will interact with all stakeholders affected by the programs including leadership, multidisciplinary teams, and stakeholders. This requires the ability to schedule tasks and coordinate with various team members to accomplish the results. 

Essential Job Functions:

1.    Lead the overall management, coordination and operational support of assigned programs as directed by Quality and Safety leadership.
2.    Lead and communicate effectively across multiple levels of organizational staff from front line to senior leaders.
3.    Collaborate with leadership on strategic planning and program expansion to achieve the spread and advancement of quality and safety knowledge across the institution.
4.    Invests in relationships, training, and tools to build improvement capacity in the organization.
5.    Align all educational efforts for current and future improvement science offerings to provide ongoing support and resources for programs such as: Quality Improvement training (Improvement Scholars, Scholars for Teams, Lean Certification, Residency QI Curriculum, & Fellow QI Curriculum), Continuous Certification (MOC), National Healthcare Quality Week, Quality Improvement Writing (QI Writers), etc. 
6.    Collect & analyze pre and post data for measurement and analysis for all assigned programs.
7.    Lead, develop and execute detailed work plans to ensure timely completion of activities as designed. Collaborate with leadership on timelines, expectations, resource requirements and status reports to ensure successful outcomes. Manages multiple programs with deadlines and competing priorities independently.
8.    Demonstrate effective issue resolution and conflict management skills throughout the process to ensure the programs continue to move forward. This includes the ability to identify barriers and communicate effectively to leadership with possible solution plans. 
9.    Support senior leadership on departmental goals and tasks as directed. 
10.    Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

1.    Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. 
2.    3-5 years of program coordination or project management experience in the healthcare industry required Project Management certification preferred.
3.    Experienced in coordinating complex enterprise intra/interdepartmental programs or projects.
4.    Excellent project/program management, organizational skills and developing change management skills.  
5.    Excellent communication, conflict resolution and problem resolution skills, including facilitation of groups, presenting to groups at all levels, assisting others to present effectively.
6.    Effective listening skills to understand various perspectives and ability to synthesize findings to achieve results.
7.    Excellent analytical and process/systems thinking skills; excellent problem-solving skills.  
8.    Experienced skills in the use of excel, visio, power point, and other Microsoft Office products. 
9.    Highly self-directed in acquiring the knowledge and skills required to lead or facilitate newly assigned projects.
10.    Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Communicates clearly and concisely in teaching and mentoring others.
