Description

Summary: Overnight Adventure Camp leaders are responsible for supervising groups of 6-8th graders on full camp days as well as overnight excursions. The responsibilities include driving a 15-passenger shuttle bus, camping overnight sometimes over state lines, working with campers to cook meals, set up camp, and clean up the site afterwards. Working with the camp supervisor, OAC leaders will supplement planned field trips with other planned activities during the day. Overnight accommodations will include tents. OAC leaders are also responsible for maintaining safety in accordance with Park District Guidelines, and using age-appropriate discipline as needed to correct problematic behavior.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). Must be 18 years old or more. One to three months related experience working with youth in a recreational camp setting. Must have some experience camping in outdoor conditions. Experience supervising staff and/or directing daily work tasks is preferred but not required.  Must display a positive and energetic attitude when working with campers. Must be able to get in the water (pool or lake) for recreational swim time with campers. 

Classification: Seasonal, non-exempt

Wage Range: $20.50 per hour

Benefits: Access to some recreation facility usage.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly outside and exposed to outside weather conditions including hot and humid weather and cold and rainy weather. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
