  • Employment Type: Full Time, Fixed Term to December 2027 (35-hour week)
  • Remuneration Level 7: $110,073 - $119,132 + 17% Superannuation 
  • Location: Paddington, NSW (the successful candidate will be required to work on campus a minimum of 3 days per week)

Connecting UNSW academics, professional staff, and students, the Hub facilitates unique opportunities for innovation within UNSW and in partnership with industry, government, and community stakeholders. Aligned with the UNSW Strategy: Progress for All, the Hub drives the creation of new programs, collaborations, systems, technologies and processes by strengthening innovation infrastructure and fostering a culture that inspires innovation.

The Graphic Designer and Communications Officer leads the development and delivery of creative design solutions and communication strategies to enhance the Hub's profile and impact. Combining visual design and written communication skills, this role produces engaging materials that align with the UNSW Strategy and resonate with diverse audiences. The position works closely with the Societal Impact, Equity, and Engagement portfolio to ensure alignment with the Hub's goals.


Accountabilities:

  • Develop and implement communication strategies to enhance the UNSW Innovation Hub’s programs, including internal and external communications, stakeholder engagement and social media management, ensuring successful delivery of the Innovation Hub’s workplan.
  • Collaborate with the Hub’s Director to create workshop and educational materials for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide creative leadership in visual and communication design to produce high-quality materials that align with UNSW branding and the Hub’s marketing and communication objectives.
  • Deliver design and communication solutions in response to client briefs, creating content for diverse platforms such as print, digital, video, large-format, and mobile.
  • Prepare and distribute communications across multiple channels (email, newsletters, websites, social media, intranet, etc.) to maximise the Hub's impact and visibility.
  • Create briefing notes, key messages, media releases, and promotional materials to support events and initiatives, ensuring alignment with communication objectives.
  • Ensure adherence to UNSW branding guidelines, establish design standards, and oversee quality control for all design and communication projects.
  • Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, collaborating with internal teams, partner organisations, printers, and photographers to achieve high-quality outcomes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government, industry, and community partners to enhance collaboration and engagement.

Skills and Experience: 

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Graphic Design, and a related field in either Marketing, Communications, Journalism or Public Relations, or substantial experience, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and measuring external communication strategies and initiatives to enhance visibility and engagement across a range of communication style and genres – including social media.
  • Expertise in synthesizing and visualizing complex information and creating clear, engaging documentation for stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to create both digital and print assets and documentation for events such as workshops, conferences, showcases and exhibitions including an understanding of large format design, printing and display requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in distilling complex information into straightforward messages for communication to diverse stakeholders in support of strategic goals.
  • Innovative and agile thinker with the ability to suggest new ideas and pathways to disseminate the Hub’s key messages, initiatives, and outcomes effectively to diverse audiences across multiple platforms.
