Job Summary:

Address: 8303 Dodge St, Omaha, NE

Work Schedule: Saturday and Sunday, 6:00pm to 6:00am

Cardiology technician assists Cardiologists scheduling appointments, reviewing patient files, monitoring testing and assists in diagnosis of cardio and/or vascular diseases.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment, as outlined in the Age Specific Criteria.

  • Demonstrates ability to identify opportunities for and give individualized customer service/patient care according to customer/patient needs.

Schedule patients for stress tests and assists physician's pr mid-level practitioners with performance of the stress tests (including nuclear stress tests).

  • Receives call from emergency room and coordinates chest pain patients for early morning stress tests.
  • Assists coordination of add-on patients to the Heart Station or Nuclear Department.
  • Communicates add-on patients with the mid-level practitioners or physicians for the procedure.

Prepares patient for a stress test.

  • Checks patient wristband for two identifiers (full name, medical history number, and/or date of birth).
  • Educate patient regarding lead placement, how to walk on a treadmill, what to expect from the increased heart rate, and the importance of exciting off the treadmill quickly for the echo sonographer.
  • Prior to the stress test, obtain accurate patient history, have appropriate indications for the procedure and obtain BP's for physicians or mid-level practitioners.
  • Monitor patients' heart rate after stress test to ensure it is within a normal range.
  • Log each patient in to Cerner and charge for the procedure.

Work professionally with all members of the cardiac team.

  • Works well with Emergency Room, Nuclear, Echo staff and Registered Nurses when coordinating stress echos.

Collaborates in the maintenance of proper inventory.

  • Works with Bio-med for all first respond maintenance for EKG carts or treadmill needs.
  • Shares the responsibility of ordering supplies for the department.

Demonstrates ability to access environment of care policies on computer.

  • Can speak to code red. How to rescue patients and evacuate the department.
  • Can speak to code triage. What is responsibility with a code triage?
  • Is knowledgeable of the hazardous materials in the area and can identify the chemical diamond.
  • Demonstrates competency in accessing all hospital policies.

Competent in putting on and taking off Holter Monitors and Event Monitors.

  • Knows who makes the appointment for the Holter Monitor or Event Monitors.
  • Give instructions to the patient for the Holter Monitor and Event Monitors.
  • Appropriately charges for putting on and taking off the monitors.

Saturday and Sunday, 6:00pm to 6:00am

Job Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) required.
  • Participates in mandatory in-services and continuing education programs as mandated by policies and procedures, external agencies, or as directed by supervisor or manager.


Experience

  • Previous experience with electrocardiogram (EKG) and cardiac stress testing preferred. 


License/Certifications

  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Requires the ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language well enough to communicate at a level normally acquired through a high school education.<
